Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance (Performing Engineering Operations)

M I Glass, a Smethwick-based glass firm, has benefited greatly from selecting a young talent from Walsall College.

Harry Weston, who is undertaking an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance, applied for the post at M I Glass on the National Gov website.

“I spend two days at Walsall College and the rest of the week is spent here at MI Glass. I’m developing a lot of new skills, which is great as it’s building on the practical skills I picked up at college.”

Harry’s role involves an increasingly wide range of engineering duties and responsibilities.

“I start the compressors in the firm and if there are any breakdowns, I would see what the problem is and then get them running again.”

The next step on his journey is to pass his course. “My plan is to finish my course and then continue with my apprenticeship and see where it takes me,” he said.

Paul Torrance, Production Manager at MI Glass, said: "MiGlass believe strongly in developing our own talent and have another two apprentices working their way through their respective courses.

"We know Harry will be a great asset to us and look forward to helping him fulfil his undoubted potential. We are very lucky to have such a forward thinking Board of Directors who are keen to work with local training and education providers to help local people access good quality jobs.

"To demonstrate this, our MD Alan Taylor has become a Sandwell Business Ambassador in order to promote manufacturing and business within the area."
